Empowering Journeys: Celebrating Women Leaders at United Cargo

In honor of Women’s History Month, United Cargo proudly spotlights six exceptional women whose talent, resilience, and leadership drive the organization forward. Representing Sales, Operations, and Corporate roles, their stories reveal the challenges overcome and the lessons learned on the path to success in the cargo industry.

As Eleanor Roosevelt wisely stated, “I am who I am today because of the choices I made yesterday.”

Q&A with our Women Leaders

Paving New Paths with Jennifer Greathouse

Cargo Specialty Products Excellence Manager, IAD

What challenges have you faced as a woman in the cargo industry, and how have you overcome them?

When starting out in Cargo, there was the challenge of being only the second female Air Freight Agent in the building—without a blueprint or mentor to follow. Double takes were common, yet that never stopped progress. Success came from focusing on skills rather than gender, working hard, learning from colleagues, and proving capabilities every day. Reflecting on that journey brings pride in paving a path for others.

What advice would you give to women just starting out in aviation or cargo?

The key advice is not to be intimidated by the unfamiliar. Cargo is a fascinating field with something new to learn every day—from the diverse products moved to the unique needs of customers served. The goal is to see the industry move beyond gender labels, where individuals are recognized for their skills and contributions. For those who are curious and ready to work hard, this industry offers many opportunities.

Breaking Barriers with Jo Peacock

Cargo Sales Manager, LHR

What challenges have you faced as a woman in the industry, and how did you overcome them?

When starting out, often the only woman in the room—especially in leadership or sales roles—presented unique challenges. At times, feeling underestimated or overlooked could have been discouraging; however, that became a source of motivation. Hard work, continuous learning, and building relationships based on trust and knowledge paved the way forward. Over time, persistence paid off, and now it is inspiring to see more women enter the field and take their seats at the table.

What keeps you passionate about your role every day?

Collaboration and the success of the team drive passion every day. Helping colleagues tackle challenges and watching them grow into their potential is truly motivating. The dynamic nature of cargo—where no two days are the same—keeps energy levels high. Additionally, being part of a global team creates a constant connection to people and markets around the world, fueling ongoing enthusiasm.

Leading with Resilience with Chris Cormier

Cargo Interline Sales Manager, EWR

How have you navigated challenges or barriers as a woman throughout your career?

Rising through the ranks during a time when women were routinely passed over for better opportunities required stepping outside comfort zones. Seeking roles that fostered growth and earning respect was essential. Mentors—both male and female—provided honest feedback and challenged progress, helping overcome obstacles along the way. This perseverance ultimately led to becoming the first female Country Manager in Europe.

What’s the biggest lesson learned about leadership in this industry?

Flexibility and empathy are essential. Experience across multiple departments, cities, and countries has shown that understanding what motivates people is key. Leadership starts with the belief that everyone is doing their best. When environments are created where employees feel safe and valued, they are empowered to rise to any challenge.
